New Spruce Health Hub opens in Kingston to improve access to care
February 19, 2026
The Frontenac, Lennox and Addington Ontario Health Team (FLA OHT), in partnership with the Maple Family Health Team (FHT) and regional primary care partners, has opened the new Spruce Health Hub in Kingston. The Hub is designed to improve access to care and help more people connect to ongoing primary care close to home.
Located at 714 Front Rd., the Spruce Health Hub supports many of the region’s Health Homes by giving family doctors and nurse practitioners access to a shared team of health professionals. This expands the capacity of local clinics and helps them connect more people to their practices.
The Hub creates a single, coordinated point of access for family physicians and nurse practitioners to refer people who need mental health services, chronic disease management, physiotherapy, and community supports. By bringing these services together, the Hub makes it easier for people to get the care they need in one place and remain connected to their family doctor or nurse practitioner.
Over the past two years, the FLA OHT and partners have connected more than 16,000 people to primary care. However, as of January 2026, about 24,000 people in the region were still without a family doctor or nurse practitioner.
“This Hub is what collaboration looks like in action. When organizations come together around a shared goal, we can do more than we ever could alone,” said Dr. Kim Morrison, Executive Lead of the FLA OHT. “By working together, we are giving primary care teams the support they need to attach more people and provide care in a more connected way. When people have a Health Home and access to supportive team members around them, it strengthens the whole community.”
The Spruce Health Hub offers access to a range of health and social supports, including nurse practitioners, nurses, a dietitian, a social worker, a psychologist, community outreach workers, and a physiotherapist. Services will be offered through scheduled appointments, same day visits, group programs, or virtual care, helping reduce barriers and improve timely access to care.
The Hub also creates capacity within the system by ensuring the right professional provides the right care. For example, when a physiotherapist or social worker manages specialized care, it allows family doctors and nurse practitioners to focus on attaching and caring for more people.
“Maple Family Health Team is proud to partner in this shared approach to care,” said Ashley Miller, Executive Director of the Maple Family Health Team. "Through the Spruce Health Hub, people gain direct access to care, from community support workers to physiotherapy and mental health care. We are providing the tools primary care teams need to better serve people under one roof."
People are attached to Health Homes through Health Care Connect and through priority pathways, including for pregnant people, newborns and infants, people with cancer, and individuals identified through Integrated Care Pathways for Chronic Disease
Referrals to the Hub are currently accepted from family physicians and nurse practitioners in partnering Health Homes, including Greenwood Medical, Frontenac Doctors, Princess Street Medical Clinic, CDK Family Medicine, and Medical Tree. After a referral is received, the Spruce Health Hub team contacts the individual directly to book appointments and answer questions.
“As a retired nurse and caregiver, I’ve seen how hard it can be to navigate the system,” said Sharon Coyle, community member and member of the FLA OHT Community Council and Maple FHT Patient and Family Advisory Council. “The Spruce Health Hub shows what’s possible when community voices and health-care partners come together to make care easier to access and more connected.”
The opening of the Spruce Health Hub is supported by $1.49 million from the Ontario government as part of its $2.1-billion Primary Care Action Plan.
The Spruce Health Hub is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents without a primary care provider can find a list of local health-care services on the FLA OHT Community Resources page while they wait to be connected.
