The Frontenac, Lennox & Addington Ontario Health Team (FLA OHT) is proud to recognize the invaluable contributions of its Community Council members this International Volunteer Day. These dedicated volunteers bring lived and living experience, insights, and leadership to the FLA OHT helping to shape a more coordinated, connected and person-centred health system in the Frontenac, Lennox and Addington region.

“The Community Council is the cornerstone of the FLA OHT,” says Dr. Kim Morrison, FLA OHT Executive Lead. “This incredible group of volunteers ensure that the voices of individuals, families, and caregivers guide every aspect of our work — from co-design initiatives that improve access to care to making sure the realities and needs of our communities are reflected in the system we are building together.”

The FLA OHT Community Council is currently made up of 22 volunteers from across the region, representing a wide range of lived experiences and perspectives, including members from Indigenous, Francophone, and equity-deserving communities; people with disabilities, rural and urban community members, and older adults. Together, they play an essential role in co-designing services, informing planning, contributing to health system improvements, and strengthening community engagement across the OHT.

“Volunteering with the Council means helping build a healthier community — together,” says Brenda Luffman, Community Council co-chair. “Our members bring heart, passion, and a strong commitment to sharing their voices. They ensure community perspectives guide decisions that shape the OHT’s growth and initiatives, including Health Homes, digital technologies, patient portals, and Indigenous Health & Wellness partnerships.”

The FLA OHT extends its heartfelt thanks to every Community Council member for their dedication, leadership, and insights. Their contributions are vital in building a more connected, inclusive, and person-centred health system for all.
