Early detection of breast, cervical, colon and lung cancers
Cancer screening: Why it matters & how to get checked
Looking after your health can be challenging. But early cancer screening can find changes before you even feel a symptom. This is when treatment works best.
In Ontario, these tests are free for eligible people. They can make a life-saving difference.
-
Breast cancer: Regular screening can catch changes early and reduce deaths.
-
Cervical cancer: Regular tests can prevent or catch cancer linked to Human Papilloma Virus (HPV).
-
Colon cancer: Most cases can be cured if found early.
- Lung cancer: Screening helps stay ahead of the leading cause of cancer death.

Ontario Cervical Screening Program (OCSP)
- A province-wide screening program run by Ontario Health (Cancer Care Ontario).
- OCSP goal: lower people’s chance of getting or dying from cervical cancer by increasing the number of eligible people with a cervix (including women, Two-Spirit people, transmasculine people and nonbinary people) who get screened regularly and who have timely and appropriate follow-up of abnormal results.
- The new test replaces the Pap test because it is better at helping prevent cervical cancer
