Activities for seniors at Kingston Community Health Centres
June 7, 2023.
Just in time for Seniors Month, Kingston Community Health Centres (KCHC) has rolled out a new weekly Seniors Day, coordinating several activities and events to allow seniors to come together to socialize, exercise, and learn, creating a unique opportunity for connection. Every Thursday morning, seniors are invited to KCHC’s 263 Weller Ave. site where they’ll find access to or information about the following programming.
Otago Exercise Program: Offered by AVOID Frailty, this program can reduce risks of falling by improving muscle strength, flexibility, balance and reaction time. More information at Healthy Aging Centres or by calling 613.549.6666 x2834.
Penguins: The Penguins are one of the longest-running social groups at KCHC, meeting weekly on Thursdays from 9:30-11:30 a.m. for about 30 years! Anyone over the age of 55 is welcome to join and come whenever it is convenient. The group has lovely, lighthearted conversations, a light snack, crafts and games. Everyone leaves a little brighter than when they came, filled with fun and friendship.
Seniors' Food Box: KCHC has been offering a Seniors' Food Box program since 2020. Volunteers pack fresh produce and pantry items at the Community Food Distribution Warehouse and deliver to over 400 older adults in the community each month. The program is supported by United Way funding.
Talking Café: Featuring free refreshments, this event offers a chance to meet others in the community while enjoying a coffee/tea and a treat on Thursdays from 11-12 p.m.!
Tech Support for Seniors: Help is available for all things technological: phones, computers, email, etc. KCHC’s Seniors Tech Mentor is on hand every Thursday from 9-10 a.m. and 11 a.m.-12 noon to answer questions. One-on-one support is also available: call 613.453.4029 and leave your name and number.
