Understanding palliative care experiences of Indigenous peoples

Seeking Research Participants

This community-based research study is a collaboration between the Queen’s University Department of Family Medicine and the Frontenac Lennox and Addington Ontario Health Team (FLA OHT) Indigenous-Focused Palliative Care Subgroup.

WHY? To understand lived experiences and identify important things to consider in palliative care approaches and the end-of-life journey for Indigenous peoples. The goal is to improve palliative and end-of-life care for Indigenous communities.

PARTICPANTS? Seeking Indigenous-identifying adults living with serious illnesses and/or coming to the end of life, and those in their circle of care (family and community members), living in the Frontenac, Lennox and Addington counties.

WHAT IS INVOLVED? One-time participation in a Talking Circle 

  • WHEN? Friday, December 12th from 12:30PM to 3:00PM
  • WHERE? at Providence Care Hospital
  • INCLUDES: a light lunch and chits for parking. If childcare is needed for participation, please contact us.
  • HONORARIUM: A gift card valued at $25 and a grief medicine bag.

ETHICS APPROVAL: This study has received ethical approval by the Queen’s University Health Sciences and Affiliated Teaching Hospitals Research Ethics Board. The principal investigators are Dr. Amrita Roy and Dr. Sarah Funnell.
